Mechanisms of Horizontal Integration

The Government Council for Sustainable Development, originally established in 1999, gained new statutory rights in 2004, however it was cancelled together with other subsidiary governmental councils.

Currently, the horizontal integration of SD issues is ensured by the Government Office which holds an overall responsibility for SD. More specifically, it is responsible for the Horizontal Priority Sustainable Development which is being implemented in all operational programmes under the National Strategic Reference Framework in this programming period. Similarly the Government Office will implement a Horizontal Principle Sustainable Development in the forthcoming programming period.

The Government Office is also a coordinator of activites of the European Union Strategy for the Danube Region in Slovakia which constitutes an SD concept on the regional level.
